I had the 2010 Lexus GX 460 SUV this week and was very much looking forward to it. Lexus does just about everything right and it is always a joy to have one.
If you are looking for a crossover, this is not the vehicle for you. It is full-on truck-based SUV and it is an excellent mix of luxury built around a tough and capable vehicle. It looks tough, and it is full time four-wheel drive, but yet it has an air of class. Few manufacturers have found a combination that works this well. In other words, if you are a guy you’ll love it, and if you are a gal you’ll love it too.
The GX is powered by a 4.6 liter, 301-horse v-8 with a six speed automatic transmission. Safety features abound with front, side, knee, and 2nd and 3rd row side curtain airbags. All those airbags are standard as is stability control.
The interior is striking and it is impossible not to notice how deep and rich the carpeting looks as you open the door. The leather seating is very comfortable and as standard equipment, is both heated and cooled. Third row seating is ample for adults, a rarity in some SUVs, and folds flat at the push of a button. The GX comes standard with tri-zone heating and air, as well as high-intensity headlamps.
Some car critics find the suspension on the GX460 to be soft and as I recall from a few years ago, I thought so too. But this 2010 model handles great and Lexus has found the right combination of handling and nice ride. You can enhance this with their Dynamic Suspension system which you set to sport or comfort, whichever you choose.
You’d have a wonderful SUV if you did not order any options, but my test vehicle came with rear, front, and side cameras, Mark Levinson Audio package, and park assist.
Total MSRP on this Satin Cashmere colored is $62,584 as tested. I also ask myself what I would change if I could. The ONLY thing I would change is make larger wheels standard equipment to make it look beefier. It comes with 18″ alloy wheels and for me 20″ wheels would set this truck off.
One thing I learned long ago…Lexus ALWAYS gets it right.
