2016 Chevy Corvette Production Tops 40,000 Models

2016 Chevy Corvette Production Tops 40,000 Models

Chevrolet built more 2016 model year Corvettes than they did for the 2015 model year.

The official tally for the 2016 model year is 40,689 according to the National Corvette Museum. The number is up almost 19 percent over 2015 numbers – with Chevy building more than 6,000 more ‘Vettes this year over last.

2016 Corvette Production Highlights

  • The highest-selling model was the Stingray Coupe. More than half, or 52 percent of buyers, went with it. The second most popular choice was the Z06, followed by the Stingray Convertible. The Z06 Convertible trailed the pack.
  • The 2LT package was most popular for the Coupe. The 3LZ package was the most popular for the Z06.
  • If you have a special design package, your car is pretty rare. Only 371 have the Twilight Blue Design Package, 535 have the Spice Red Design Package, and 454 have the Jet Black Suede Design Package.
  • For the special C7.R Edition there were 570 Coupe Z06s and 80 Convertible Z06s. (This edition was originally limited to only 500 cars so 500 went to the U.S., and the other 150 went to other markets.)
  • Automatics were the big winner in the transmission department. 31,440 of the 2016 Corvettes have the 8-speed paddle shift automatic transmission.
  • Two-tone seats were new for 2016, but only 1,474 of drivers chose this option.
