The Nissan TITAN XD Crew Cab Diesel goes on sale tomorrow and it’s just in the nick of time for Santa’s worldwide deliveries. The base model will start at $41,485. The top-of-the-line Platinum Reserve goes for $61,716. The XD comes in five grade levels and a choice of 4×4 and 4×2 drivetrains.
Nissan hopes outfitting it with a 5.0-liter Cummins Diesel V8 engine will attract new buyers in the extremely competitive truck market. The engine delivers 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, which is less than the Ford F-150 lineup. It offers between 325hp and 385hp depending on the engine. In terms of size, it’s sandwiched between the Ford F-150 and F-250.
“This is a big day for Nissan, our retailers and our customers – figuratively and literally – as our new ‘Every Duty’ Nissan TITAN XD powers into showrooms across the country,” said Dan Mohnke, vice president of Nissan’s U.S. Sales & Marketing Operations. “There’s never been a TITAN like this and the diesel-powered TITAN XD Crew Cab is only the beginning.”
The TITAN XD comes with features like Around View Monitor and integrated gooseneck trailer hitch.
The XD also gets Nissan’s advanced Variable Valve Event & Lift technology. It combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake and exhaust sides to provide high performance and crisp response. Throttle response is enhanced by directly controlling the intake valve, rather than using the traditional method of controlling intake with a throttle valve, and valve timing and opening with non-variable camshafts.
We’ll have to wait and see how Nissan prices its standard Titan with the naturally aspirated 5.6-liter V8. It will also be outfitted with a new 7-speed automatic.
