Shell out about $10,000 more than the price of a regular Stingray Coupe and you could be driving a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.
The track-focused model goes on sale this summer starting at just over $66,000. The coupe’s base is $66,445 and the convertible starts at $70,445. That puts it right in between the regular $56,000 Stingray and the supercharged Z06 that starts around $80,000.
The Chevrolet Corvette Gand Sport is a pretty attractive package for the price if we do say so ourselves. It combines a Z06 model’s suspension, braking, body and tire upgrades with the Stingray’s naturally aspirated 460 horsepower 6.2-liter V8. It comes standard with a seven-speed Active Rev Match manual, but you can opt for an eight-speed automatic.
For all the track fans out there concerned about performance, Chevy says the 2017 Grand Sport’s lightweight architecture, downforce-producing aerodynamics package, enhanced cooling package, electronic limited-slip differential and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires combine to offer a Chevrolet-estimated 1.05g in cornering capability – and up to 1.2g with the available Z07 package, which includes Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
You’ll hit 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and quarter-mile capability of 11.8 seconds at 118 mph, with the available Z07 performance package and available paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission.
In the looks department, the Grand Sport features specific front fender inserts and Z06-style grille, as well as wider fenders and rear quarter panels to accommodate a wider track.
Color could be a problem if you’re indecisive because Chevy is offering the Stingray’s full color pallet, including 10 different exterior options. Three of those are new for 2017: Watkins Glen Gray Metallic, Black Rose Metallic and Sterling Blue Metallic. If you want full-length body stripes with the available Heritage package you’ll be choosing between 5 more color options there. It also adds hash-mark fender graphics.
Finally, the available Z07 package brings five wheel choices and available carbon fiber ground effects.
Whew. We’ll also say this. There are certainly a lot of decisions to be made if you decide to take one home.
The 2017 Grand Sport goes on sale this summer. A Grand Sport Collector Edition will be offered later in the model year.
