Happy Monday folks! There are two reasons to be excited about it. For one, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback goes on sale in the states. Secondly, Mazda is opening the MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition preorder books.
The preorder site goes live Monday at 12pm EST. It’s open to special customers who received an invitation with a personalized code. They’ll have a limited window of time to preorder one of the roadsters on MX5RFPreorder.com. They’ll also need to put down a $500 refundable deposit. After that window closes, the books open to the public, but we wouldn’t count on that. The 2015 MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition sold out in just 10 minutes when it went on sale in 2014.
The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition starts from $33,850 for the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual and $34,925 for models with the six-speed automatic. Deliveries begin in February 2017, and continue through the spring.
The sweet, slick two-door retractable fastback is a beauty of car. The roadster made its surprise debut earlier this year at the New York Auto Show. Instead of a normal hardtop, this one lifts up and back and is stored underneath a back plate, similar to a Porsche Targa top. (Technically speaking, the term Targa first appeared on the 1972 Porsche 911T Targa and the word remains a registered trademark of Porsche.)
The MX-5 RF Launch Edition is based on the Grand Touring trim level of the 2017 MX-5 Miata RF and features a exclusive Machine Gray Metallic paint color and Auburn Nappa leather interior trim with a hand-painted black roof panel. A custom-designed, serialized 42mm Tourneau watch also comes with the car.
Other MX-5 RF’s will join the lineup, but they just won’t be quite as exclusive as the Launch Edition.. They’ll arrive as either Grand Touring or Club trim levels sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
