2017 Texas Auto Roundup Award Winners

2017 Texas Auto Roundup Award Winners

What do you get when you gather 52 journalists and 42 vehicles? The Texas Auto Writers Association Auto Roundup and a bunch of giddy auto writers, some of the Car Pro staff included.

This year, the annual big dance took place at the incredible Circuit of the Americas Formula One track in Austin, Texas. Gorgeous sunny skies and a mild heatwave heralded the start of the two-day driving evaluation extravaganza. The track course included everything you’d expect from a world-class track including tight turns, a 0 to 60 test and a slalom course.

As for the vehicles, the Roundup included everything but trucks. The bulk of evaluation categories involved sedans, performance vehicles, SUVs and, yes, the comeback minivan. Many automakers represented, including Toyota, Mercedes-AMG, Nissan, Hyundai, Infiniti, Ford, and Kia, Honda, Volkswagen and Subaru. Fiat Chrysler brands made a tour de force exhibit with an entry in just about every category, Jeep, Dodge, Fiat, Chrysler and Alfa Romeo included. General Motors was noticeably absent from the lineup.

“The manufacturers provided us with an incredible stable of the latest family, luxury, and performance vehicles to evaluate, and our journalists racked up more than 1,100 individual drives for more than 130 cumulative hours behind the wheel,” said TAWA president Nic Phillips.

Here’s a look at the category winners.
