Ok, so this isn’t a vehicle for the masses. But if you’re a head of state, or are generally worried about getting shot at, Mercedes has you covered with its new massive armored Maybach S600 Pullman Guard limo.
This thing could get you through just about anything from the looks of it. It takes the standard Pullman and adds some pricey bullet-proofing to meet the protection level of the S600 Guard. The 21,000 pound, 21-foot long vehicle is certified for blast resistance in the VR9 class. Think of it as a limo tank. It’s fitted with a special type of steel fitted between the body structure and sheet metal. It also has underbody armor plates with panels that overlap so no bullets get through. The windows have polycarbonate coating on the bulletproof glass .
It’s not exactly fast though. Given that 21,000 pound curb weight, its top speed is 99 miles an hour. Even with its V12 twin-turbo that delivers 530-horses and 612 pound-feet of torque.
It’s a good thing most of us don’t have to worry about bullet-proofing. Because this thing isn’t cheap. A standard Pullman runs around $500,000. But you can expect prepared to shell out about $1.5 million for all that added armor.
