Auto News: Mustang Muscle, Mercedes Golf, Super Duty Specs

Ford’s latest aviation-themed GT350 Mustang, Mercedes-Benz’s take on the luxury golf cart and Ford’s take no prisoner attitude with the 2017 Super Duty in Friday’s Auto News in :60.

‘Ole Yeller’ Ford Shelby 350GT Mustang

Say hello to ‘Ole Yeller’, Ford’s newest one-off Mustang built for charity. It’s the most track-ready, road-legal Shelby GT350 Ford’s ever built. The muscle car is Ford’s latest aviation-themed Mustang that will be auctioned off to support youth aviation programs.

The Mustang pays tribute to the iconic P-51D Mustang fighter plane and renowned pilot Bob Hoover. Hoover, now 94 years old, is a highly decorated U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, test pilot and air show performer.  He piloted “Ole Yeller” in airshows for more than twenty years.

The 5.2-liter V8 makes 562-horses and 429 pound-feet of torque. It will be donated and auctioned off during the Gathering of Eagles charity event at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016.

Mercedes-Benz Golf Cart

Now something for all you golfers out there. (And if you’re not one, this might very well make you decide to become one.) Mercedes-Benz is introducing a new electric luxury golf cart concept.

It’s officially dubbed the Mercedes-Benz Golf Garia Cart. (Garia is also a luxury golf cart maker on its own.)

The sports car-inspired golf cart is a concept at this point, but Mercedes could build them if there is interest. It’s made out of carbon fiber, and comes with a lot of tech including a front and center tablet on the dash.  It features leather and wood on the inside, and of course, comes with a mini-fridge.

Best-in-Class 2017 Ford Super Duty

Ford’s new 2017 Super Duty due out this fall wins the numbers game in its class – big time.

Ford announced official numbers for the pickup this week. The F-450 will be able to conventionally tow a 21,000-pound trailer, which Ford says is 1,000 pounds more than the competition.

The truck’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel also gives it a class-leading 440 horsepower and class-leading 925 pound-feet of torque. (That’s for all pickup models from F-250 to F-450.) The 6.2-liter V8 gas model offers a best-in-class 430 lb-ft of torque.

The latest news certainly can’t make Ford’s competition too happy, especially on the heels of Ford’s F-150 announcement. The automaker recently revised numbers for the truck, giving the F-150 best-in-class torque as well.
