Chrysler Introduces New Police Cruiser – Car Pro News

Police CruiserChrysler Group LLC has unveiled a new version of its Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle for police and fire customers.
Like its civilian counterpart, the 2014 Special Service Dodge Durango features a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that promises a 15 percent improvement over the previous model. It also adds heavy-duty components to handle the extreme use and high mileage requirements of emergency services.
“The 2014 Dodge Durango Special Service model is a state-of-the-art resource for fleet customers,” said Peter Grady, head of fleet operations for Chrysler, in a statement Thursday. “It’s been specifically designed for the demands and rigors of fleet duty. It joins the Dodge Charger Pursuit sedan and Ram 1500 Special Service truck currently available to government fleet customers.”
Special components include a heavy-duty brake package, more powerful battery, larger-output 220-amp alternator, more robust water pump and engine oil cooler and a load leveling suspension.
It will be assembled at Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. Chrysler is opening the order book now, with production scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2013.
