Lincoln, we have a request. Please make the 2018 Navigator in this blue color. It’s gorgeous.
I told Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra as much this week during a media event launching Lincoln’s new partnership with the Dallas Cowboys. Lincoln brought along the all-new Navigator Concept so we could take a peek at one of the next members of Lincoln’s revamped lineup. While Galhotra couldn’t confirm colors, he did give me some hope.
“I can’t go into details, but I love that color. Let me just say that,” Galhotra told me.
The all-new Navigator concept is a very strong indication of what the production model will look like, minus the gullwing doors. (It’s almost as if this thing will lift off at any moment. ) But, alas, they are just there to help show off the huge interior.
“We wanted to show it off and what better way to show off it than to turn the body side into a door,” Galhotra said.
By the way, those seats adjust 30 ways. The cabin also features a high-end Revel audio system specifically tuned to create the highest level sound.
Designers drew their inspiration from luxury sailboats and yachts when designing the new concept.
It even features a wardrobe management system in the back. It’s perhaps designed for all those quick-change moments in between a roster of family events. I know I could certainly use one of those.
Lincoln’s overall goal was to make a full-size SUV that fit with its quiet luxury theme.
In its new lineup, which includes the 2017 Lincoln Continental and 2017 MKZ, the automaker is really focusing on creating vehicles and entire experiences that are elegant, effortlessly powerful and serene.
As far as the Navigator concept goes that means making it big without making it the “loudest statement on the road.” I do have to say I really love the look of the huge wheels. Let’s hope they’re a part of the final production version, too, which will roll out as a 2018 model.
Galhotra says Dallas is the biggest market for the Navigator. It also appeals to certain customers.
“A lot of people don’t realize this, the Navigator is our youngest customer in our fleet,” Galhotra told me. “It’s driven by a lot of young families. People who drive around with their kids, people carry football equipment, hockey equipment, a lot of capability, long trips with family. So that customer is all about fantastic interior space and capability.”
The concept model features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood. It delivers more than 400-horses. There are also different drive modes to fit various driving conditions.
Lincoln recently became the new official luxury vehicle of the Dallas Cowboys. The automaker will open a new Lincoln Experience Center at the team’s headquarters, The Star, in Frisco next spring.
