Design Your Own Ford Billboard For Times Square

Design Your Own Ford Billboard For Times Square

Do you think you have what it takes to create an ad worthy of Times Square and LA? Ford does. The automaker is offering you the chance to submit a digital billboard ad design on a special website. They’ll go up in major cities across the country from New York to San Francisco.

No worries if you’re not a design expert. All you need is the ability to point and shoot with your mouse, a favorite Ford vehicle, and an eye for color. It’s like a little fun art app except that the stakes are real and people besides your immediate family could be viewing your digital artwork.

Ford is calling the campaign Ford by Design with the catchphrase of “By design. By You.”

Here’s what you need to know. The design and submission website is It’s a simple, three-step creative process that you can spend as much, or as little, time working on as you like.

  1. Choose a City: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., or Miami/Ft Lauderdale.
  2. Choose a Car: Shelby GT350R, Fusion Energi, Focus RS, Fiesta ST, Mustang GT, Focus, Fusion, Focus ST, or Shelby GT350.
  3. Select a background design: Chalk, Smoke, or Fractal.

Once you’re done, you enter your first name, last initial, zip code, and email. After it’s submitted, it is sent to the queue for the billboard in your selected city. If it is used, a “billboard selfie” will be taken and emailed to you. Depending on demand, Ford says that your design could appear a matter of minutes after you submit it.

“We wanted consumers to experience and be a part of our brand in a unique way. By showcasing what our consumers’ vehicles mean to them, we have made their individual expressions the driving message of our campaign. The By Design campaign goes far beyond how our cars look. It’s about how our cars make you feel. We are turning the lens on to the consumer, allowing users to create our ads and really letting them feel connected ‘by design,” says Lisa Schoder, Ford digital marketing manager.

So what are you waiting for? Give yourself a break and make some art.
