Hi, Jerry – I wrote to you in late Dec. about buying the MB-SLK-350. It was practically an impulse buy for me because I walked into the showroom and saw it and fell in love right away. (my previous car was an SUV) I was at the Greenway dealership (in Houston) and I came home to look for your rec about where to buy it. You put me in touch with Garrick Hatfield, but unfortunately he was not going to get one just like the red one with white interior that Greenway had until March or April of this year. As you know, it is a low production car, so I went back to Greenway and even though 2 other people almost bought it out from under me, I did purchase it there on Dec. 30th.
I was so disappointed with my car buying experience and the treatment I got at Greenway. I felt totally taken advantage of price-wise for both the purchase and my trade-in. (full price for purchase and about 1/2 value for trade-in). Also, I caught them in 2 outright lies. When I told them about A-rod’s deal of free maintenance, the sales guy went to ask the mgr about it and came back with the answer of “that’s a SCAM and they are about to go out of business”. I went ahead and pre-purchased the 4-yr maintenance agreement, but now I found out it’s in their system as only being 3 years. Well, shame on me, but bottom line is that they had the car I wanted and no one else did at the time so I bought it from them.
I could go on and on about my subsequent 2 other encounters there (one to get help on learning the new features of the car and the other to get a minor adjustment made on a window seal) but suffice it to say that customer service was either non-existent or disappointingly frustrating and borderline fraudulent.
That’s the background, but the real reason I’m writing you is to THANK YOU for putting me in touch with Garrick and the A-Rod [Alex Rodriguez Mercedes Benz] dealership. Even though I didn’t buy the car there, the did some warranty service for me last week. What a GREAT experience! I am so favorably impressed with their business model and the people there. (The SOS service and the free flat-bed tow-in are amazing!) My last car was a Lexus (from Westside) and I didn’t think that another dealership or brand could compete or beat their service and standards….but A-Rod really does! I was truly feeling like I had made a mistake by buying an MB, when really my mistake was not WHAT I bought, but rather WHERE I bought it! I thought that if it was a high-end brand like MB, Lexus, BMW, etc. that they would be pretty much all have the same high quality service. But, boy was I wrong!
Anyway, thanks again. And, even though both my hubby and I have purchased new cars this year I still listen to and enjoy your weekly radio show. I also get your newsletter and enjoy reading that, too. Keep up the good work and tell Kevin “hi”, too!
