If you’re buying a 2017 Ford, you won’t have to wonder if it comes with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The automaker says it’s taking away the guesswork by offering both across its entire 2017 lineup. All of its models will receive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto by the end of the year.
Sync 3 features all-new hardware and software that makes it faster and improves the voice recognition system. New apps include Spotify, Pandora, Ford PASS, AccuWeather and AAA member services.
The Escape, Fusion, Mustang and Explorer are already available as 2017 model-year vehicles. The 2017 F-150, Super Duty, Focus, and Edge will arrive later this year.
If you are a developer trying to create new apps for Ford, the automaker is making it easier for you, too. It recently rolled out a new tool that allows developers to see how their apps work in a Ford vehicle via a desktop computer. It’s called the Ford Sync 3 AppLink Emulator. Developers can plug in a smartphone into the computer’s USB port and see how their app will look and work from the comfort of their desk.
You can find the free developer app on Ford’s Developer Program website.
