Now let the games really begin!
Ford is now reviewing 6,506 applications for one of the first 500 GT supercars. That’s how many people applied for one in the first one-month application window which is now officially closed.
More than 10,800 people initially showed interest in buying one of the first 500 supercars. But just over 6,500 of them fully completed the process.
Ford says hundreds of applicants even submitted videos to help bolster their to chance to buy one. The videos feature children, lighting effects, racing footage, revving engines, garage tours and life stories to show why they should own the all-new Ford GT.
“We’re excited by the amount of enthusiasm fans are showing for the new Ford GT,” says Dave Pericak, Global Ford Performance director. “This initial application window is just one of many ways fans and potential owners will have to connect with our all-new supercar even before it hits the streets.”
Ford plans to be picky over who can get the keys to one of these $450,000+ supercars and being a previous Ford GT owner will get you ahead of the pack. The automaker says it will start notifying potential owners in the next 90 days.
“The purchase process for the Ford GT is as unique as our all-new supercar,” says Henry Ford III, the Ford Performance global marketing manager. “We understand GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Company, and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself.”
Ford will built 250 all-new GT’s over the next two years with the first 2017 model deliveries slated for late next year.
Ford fans can still build the virtual GT of their dreams on the Ford GT configurator website. The automaker says the most popular color choice so far is Frozen White followed by Liquid Blue.
