Honda is recalling approximately 166,000 model-year 2012 CR-V crossovers and 6,200 model-year 2013 Acura ILX luxury sedans to fix front door latches.
Both door latches will be replaced. The reason: If both the driver and front passenger open their doors from the inside at the same time, and operate the manual or power door lock at the same time, it may result in the inner door handle release cable becoming partially disengaged.
If that happens, the door may not latch when closed. The doors may latch, but then open when the door locks are operated. Either way, the door can come flying open while you’re driving — not a pleasant prospect.
The CR-V has been a mainstay of the Honda line for years, but the ILX is a brand-new compact. It’s a new entry-level luxury car that is built off a Civic platform.
No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue. Owners will be sent notice about the recall in August.
