It took us a good long while to pick our jaws up off the floor after seeing the new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato earlier this year. Then Aston goes and does this: unveils a drop-top version.
This is the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante. As it’s designed for the U.S. market, Aston fittingly took the wraps off it at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week. Like the coupe, Aston Martin will only build 99 of these drop-dead gorgeous limited run convertibles.
We have all the interest in the coupe to thank for the convertible sibling. Everyone fell in love instantly with the concept Vanquish Zagato when it debuted at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy in May. Zagato, by the way, is an Italian design-house that’s partnered up with Aston Martin a number of times over the years.
Since the Volante is based on the Coupe, it also features Aston’s V12 powertrain which makes 569-horses. The body is carved out of carbon fiber. It’s a mix of the Aston Martin DB11, Vulcan, and One-77 Aston. Then it adds Zagato design touches like the “twin-bubble” roof, wraparound windshield and round rear taillights.
The Volante is the sixth car – and third convertible – in the Aston Martin Zagato lineup. Other Aston Zagato convertibles include the V8 Vantage Volante in 1988 and and the DB AR1 in 2003.
