Lee Marvin’s Shelby On the Block – Car Pro News

Lee Marvin ShelbyJoining the fast-growing list of early featured consignments to Russo and Steele’s highly anticipated Scottsdale auction in January is an exceptional 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible with fascinating and documented early celebrity provenance. Purchased new by Lee Marvin, the legendary and prolific Hollywood star, this “one of 318” GT500 KR convertibles was very well equipped with factory air conditioning and it is one of only 251 built with an automatic transmission. Mr. Marvin enjoyed his KR until 1972 when he gifted the fabulous Shelby to his personal gardener, who retained it for many years but drove it very little during the Energy Crisis of the ‘70s.
The Shelby passed through several more owners until Mustang expert Drew Alcazar and his noted Concours Restorations was commissioned to perform a complete concours-level restoration. Only original and NOS parts were used in the restoration and in testament its exceptional quality, the KR took First Place at the 1989 SAAC-14 Concours and it was featured in several magazines. Now offered from 12 years of single ownership with less than 47,000 miles, the award-winning KR is accompanied at auction by its original Shelby Automotive Pre-Delivery Inspection form listing the car’s serial number, Lee Marvin’s name, and his Hollywood address.
Additional items include four original Shelby American 10-spoke wheels on radial tires, ownership documents, and even a poster including this very special KR with Carroll Shelby’s famous autograph. Beautifully presented, this outstanding, investment-grade Shelby GT500 KR convertible is simply one of the finest of its breed.
