Lexus Aims To Please Everyone With Redesigned RX

Lexus Aims To Please Everyone With Redesigned RX

New bold chiseled lines paired with a new statement grille are just the beginnings of the brand spanking new RX. Lexus is giving its popular midsize SUV a complete redesign for 2016, and the automaker says it’s taking style, luxury, and comfort to the next level.

The most obvious design change is the grille. It is a new take on Lexus signature spindle grille design and features black mesh that carries all the way down the nose, is outlined in chrome, and is stapled by the new triple L-shape-LED headlamps. The hood carries back the lines of the grille and begins the more deeply cut and edgier lines seen throughout the rest of the exterior design.

The rear design also kicks things up with L-shaped-LED tail lights and deep cut lines that wrap around the sides for a bolder stance. Blacked-out C-pillars also contribute to the edgier feel by creating a floating roof, which is a first for Lexus.

The fourth-generation model gets an interior that seeks to combine luxury and convenience. It features a new easier to use center console and instrument panel. It also offers plenty of luxe choices with a variety of unique trims including Matte Bamboo, Espresso Walnut, and Matte Linear Dark Mocha Wood.

Interior comfort is improved with the five seater getting a lower rear floor for a more comfortable rear seat ride. Convenience is also improved with more rear cargo room for a total of 18.4 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 56.3 cubic feet with them down.

The RX comes with a 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 gas engine with 295 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides punchy acceleration and an estimated 20 city and 28 highway mpg with FWD and 19 city and 26 highway mpg with available AWD. A hybrid drivetrain is also available with a 3.5-liter V6 hybrid engine with 308 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque and 31 city and 30 highway mpg with FWD and 30 city and 28 highway mpg with AWD.

The RX is also offering an F Sport model available with AWD RX models that adds on design features that include the exclusive Rioja Red interior trim with quilted seats and black-out mesh grille. It also offers special 20-inch 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with F Sport badging to highlight improved handling of the model.

The new RX will be arriving in dealerships later this year.
