Auction Fever: Mecum Rolls Into Dallas

Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction company, returns to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16 – 19 with more than 1,000 American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, hot rods, Resto Mods and more set to cross the auction block.

The 2014 Mecum Dallas auction featured 1,155 consignments from 31 states and produced hammer sales of more than $31 million with the top seller being a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 that sold for $688,000. Following the L88, two Camaros claimed spots two and three in top sales with the first Camaro delivered to Yenko Chevrolet gaveling at $300,000 and a Gold Spinner Award-wining 1969 Yenko achieving a sale price of $285,000.

“With three auctions in Texas, we look forward to each return to the state and the energy and momentum that’s helped make the Dallas auction one of the largest Mecum Auctions’ events,” says Dana Mecum, founder and president of Mecum Auctions. “We look forward to attracting more bidders and spectators from throughout the Southwest region and adjoining states such as Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.”

The auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Bidder registration is $100 and includes admission for the bidder and one guest for all four auction days; registration can be completed in advance at or on-site at the auction. General admission tickets are available in advance and at the gate for $25 per person, per day, and children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission.

Featured consignments include a pair of Ford Mustang Fastbacks and a Shelby: a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Fastback (Lot S87) and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S105). The Shelby is a 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback (Lot S93). Other “main attraction” consignments are a 1969 Dodge Daytona, which is a one-of-one with the option package per the Chrysler Registry report, and a 1970 Plymouth Cuda with just 5,644 original miles.
