If you’re considering an SUV with a sporty engine then you’re in luck for 2017. This year, Mercedes-Benz will bring the GLE into the new AMG 43 family. The GLE43 adds an AMG engine and other AMG performance tunings to the crossover SUV.
It will be the ninth Mercedes-AMG 43 model in the U.S. lineup as AMG celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Think of the lineup as basically the middle man. It fits between standard and the high-performance versions.
The GLE43 is no exception. It replaces the GLE400 and carries an AMG 3.0-liter V6 biturbo under the hood. This engine rates 362-horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.
Like the other AMG models, the 2017 AMG 43 GLE features an enhanced 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission. Its other special AMG touches include special performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive, sport suspension, throttle mapping, unique wheels and paddle shifters. There is also a selection of unique trim options that set it apart from other GLEs.
AMG Dynamic Select allows you to choose between Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Slippery drive modes. It’s just a little nob on the console with a light showing the selected mode. The fifth option allows you to customize and save a drive mode all your own.
The GLE43 will arrive in the early part of this year. We’re assuming it means to within the first quarter. The GLE43 Coupe will follow suit later this year replacing the 450 Coupe.
Aside from the AMG43 GLEs, an E43 Sedan and GLC43 Coupe come out this year. The sedan in the early part of the year and the GLC in the latter. A 2018 AMG GT-R and GT/GT C Roadsters are in the works.
