Mini owners give yourselves a high five and pat on the back if you were in Michigan last weekend. That’s when the second biannual Mini on the Mack set a new record. Although it wasn’t the hoped for record of the world’s largest parade of Minis, it did garner the record for the largest Mini gathering on U.S. soil.
Mini drivers from across the continent gathered for the parade across Michigan’s Mackinac Bridge. A record turnout of 1,319 Minis of all makes, colors, years, and models participated in the event. A number just 132 shy of breaking the Guinness World Record of the largest parade of Minis.
The current Guinness Record will continue to be held by the London and Surrey Mini Owners Club with 1,450 Minis parading on May 17, 2009 in a rally that filled the historic 2-mile auto racing circuit around the famous Crystal Palace park in London.
“While we didn’t break the world record at this year’s event we were thrilled to see a record number of Mini owners from all over the country motor to northern Michigan just to be a part of this celebration of the Mini community. We’d like to thank all of the owners out there who motored from 38 states and parts of Canada just to be there, as well as the team at Mini of Grand Rapids and St. Ignace Events Committee,” says David Duncan, Vice President Mini of the Americas.
This years Mini on the Mack might be over, but the Mini celebration is always going strong. Next up is Mini Takes the States. This event takes place next summer and calls all Mini drivers from across the states, and the world, to join together for a 5,143 mile cross country road trek.
At the last cross country rally in 2014, an average of over 900 Minis joined up each day throughout the route with a total of nearly 500 Mini drivers going the full distance. So mark your calendar for July 9th through July 23rd next summer and get ready to toot those Mini horns.
For those of you ready to join the fun loving Mini family, check out the Mini lineup. It offers a surprising variety ranging from the 2-door traditional Mini Cooper Hardtop that starts at $20,700, to the off-roading capable four-door Countryman that starts at $22,750. The beginning of next year will also bring with it an all-new Clubman that takes Mini to a new level as the largest and most luxurious Mini in the lineup.
