When you see those blue lights flashing it might be a 2018 Ford F-150 bearing down on you. Ford is rolling out an industry first police, pursuit-rated, pickup. Naturally, the model modifies the top-selling F-150.
Ford said it is perfect for all-terrain law enforcement. Especially for things like border patrol. We’re already picturing one of these on a high-end drug bust. Extra police upgrades include specially calibrated brakes, front-stabilizer bar, and 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires. The truck layout also earns it the biggest passenger volume for a pursuit car.
The F-150 Responder starts with the FX4 package, which adds electronic-locking rear differential, Hill Descent Control, off-roading shock absorbers, four-wheel drive, and skid plates. The model is ready to go up to 100 mph with its 3.5-liter EcoBoost using 10-speed automatic, 375-horsepower, and 470 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers also make it the most powerful police-rated vehicle on the road.
Deleting the middle seat in the cabin helps make room for all the police equipment. There’s also a 240-amp alternator to support all the electric devices. Front seat material is a heavy-duty cloth with slim bolsters and anti-stab plates. The rear seats are, of course, vinyl and the floors are likewise down in heavy duty vinyl. It’s ready for easy cleaning up of messes and the public.
