Range Rover Evoque Drop-Top Arrives Mid-2016

Range Rover Evoque Drop-Top Arrives Mid-2016

Winter may be knocking on our door, but don’t tell that to Land Rover. It’s finally giving its first convertible an official debut. This week, the automaker revealed the Range Rover Evoque Convertible as the fifth member of the Range Rover family and it’ll arrive next year as a 2017 model.

“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering add another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal,” says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer.

The open air compact SUV is all season ready with standard all-wheel drive. Under the hood, it packs a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 240 horsepower and paired with nine-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with Terrain Response, which allows drivers to choose between modes for maximum handling stability on and off the road.

It is designed to mirror the look of the 2016 Evoque with the same unique roof line and high beltline. It stays true to the hardtop design with a special lightweight fabric roof. It only takes 18 seconds for it to automatically fold down with its Z-fold mechanism that allows it to fold down flush with the rear of the car. It takes 21 seconds to raise the roof at speeds up to 30 mph. When up, the roof provides comfort with a layer of acoustic insulation that the automaker says meets the five-door Evoque hardtop standard. Convertible safety is achieved with two aluminum bars that deploy within 90 milliseconds when a potential rollover is detected.

It interior comes adventure ready with 8.9 cu.-ft of cargo room and an optional ski hatch for easy loading. Land Rover says that the four seat convertible can seat four adults comfortably. It features the new Jaguar Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system on a 10.2-inch touch-screen. The system comes with smartphone integration and offers “door-to-door” navigation, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a premium sound system.

“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a symbol of refinement, luxury and creative design. It’s perfectly suited to the urban surroundings of London. The Evoque’s elegant design proportions lend themselves to the creation of a Convertible, and it’s fitting to revel the vehicle against the backdrop of one of the world’s leading centers for art and design education here in the creative hub of London,” adds McGovern.

The 2017 Evoque Convertible will arrive in the spring of 2016 with a starting price of $50,475.
