Rapid Review: 2014 Hyundai Equus Ultimate

Rapid Review: 2014 Hyundai Equus Ultimate

I said it on the air, and I will say it here; the Hyundai Equus is as nice a car as my Audi A8 and drives just as well. Seriously, this large, luxury sedan is an outstanding car and a real joy to drive.

It comes with a 5.0-liter V8 that is putting out 429-horses and is hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This rear-wheel drive luxury car has a ton of power, both low end and at highway speeds. Acceleration is strong and determined, yet very quiet when it is tromped on.

It is hard not to compare this car to Lexus LS, BMW 750, and Mercedes S550. I can tell you it stacks up nicely to them all. It has more interior room than all three of those competitors and yet has a much lower price.

The Ultimate package is completely loaded with power-everything. It has a heads-up display that projects info onto the windshield so you can keep your eyes on the road. It has rear DVD player with screens in the front seat headrests. The doors latch themselves, it has a heated steering wheel and heated and cooled rear seat.

Of course you get the famous Hyundai 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, and three years of free maintenance. When it is time for that oil change, schedule it by pushing the “at your service” button on the rearview mirror, and your dealer will deliver you a loaner, pick your car up, do the service, and delivery the car back to you clean.

  • In a few words: The Hyundai Equus is an outstanding car and an exceptional value all around.
  • MSRP: As equipped, $68,920.
  • Manufacturers website: https://www.hyundaiusa.com/equus/comparison.aspx
  • Dealers: We have great dealers for all Hyundai products in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Cleveland, Fresno, San Antonio, and Los Angeles.

After considering a 2 year old lease return purchase of a S550 last summer, I could not ignore my dads advice to buy new if I can…..so I bought the Equus Ultimate from Freeman in Irving on 7/4/14. I love it. True I dont get the Mercedes image but so many in Noth Dallas stop me to admire the car. Some think its a new Bently ha ha. Freeman does not have it together on the customer service side yet and Huffines treated me terrible….so if anything needs a wake up call is the dealers whom offer this beauty….not Hyundai. I plan to keep it long term if fate permits and this is my first Hyundai
