Subaru Teases Redesigned 2018 Crosstrek

Subaru Teases Redesigned 2018 Crosstrek

If there is one thing I’ve noticed lately, it’s the number of Subaru’s on the road. There’s a reason for that. Subaru had a record year in 2016, selling 615,132 vehicles, up five percent over 2015. December was especially bright with monthly sales hitting a 61-month growth milestone.

Subaru hopes to keep the trend going in 2017 with the recently launched all-new 2017 Impreza. The other big game maker this year will be the new Crosstrek. Subaru plans to unveil the redesigned crossover in March at the Geneva Auto Show.

Here’s what we know about the new Crosstrek so far. It will be based on the brand new, lighter, global platform that debuted on the new Impreza. It’s designed to improve safety, comfort and driving dynamics among other things.

The Crosstrek will have more ground clearance, a taller ride height and probably look more rugged, at least according to the only teaser photo Subaru’s released. It goes without saying it’ll have a roof rack.

Engine wise, expect a 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood that’s good for 152-horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. It’s the same engine used in the Impreza.  A hybrid is also reportedly in the works. Drivers will probably have a choice between a manual or a CVT. Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive will come standard, no surprise there. The crossover will also feature Subaru’s available driver’s assistance EyeSight safety system.

The 2018 Crosstrek should arrive in showrooms later this year. A plug-in version could hit the road in 2019.
