Surf’s Up For Fiat at U.S. Surfing Open

Surf’s Up! The summer is heating up with the Vans US Open of Surfing beginning this weekend in Huntington Beach, California, and Fiat is going along for the ride.

The automaker is teaming up with the competition for the third year and will hit the waves with special water-bound Fiat-skis. It will also be showing off its new 2016 Fiat 500X in its beach lineup, along with the Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, the four-door 500L Urbana Trekking, the Fiat 500 1957 edition and the all-electric Fiat 500e.

“As the Fiat brand continues to evolve, our partnership with Vans and with one of the summer’s most exciting surfing events continues to grow as we enter our third year together. This summer, we’ll offer fans more of everything, including a look at our all-new 2016 Fiat 500X all-wheel-drive crossover, a GIF booth where beach-goers can share images of themselves on one of surfing’s largest stages and an opportunity to discover even more about the Fiat 500X through our interactive window shopping display at the Fiat brand’s beach activation,” says Jason Stoicevich, Head of Fiat Brand North America.

As the latest member to the Fiat lineup, the 500X is a sportier version of Fiat’s signature design aesthetic. Fiat says it’s designed to offer more room and offer fun handling. It falls into the crossover category with four doors, a roomier interior, and seating for five. It is also available in all-wheel-drive.

The 500X offers two engine choices. The first is comes standard on the base trim and is a fuel efficient 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine that delivers 160 horsepower with 184 pound-feet of torque and is paired with six-speed automatic transmission. The second option comes standard on the upper trims and is a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine that gets 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque and is mated to nine-speed automatic transmission.

Fiat also goes all-out in the trim department, with five 500X trims available. The base trim is the Pop that starts at $20,000. The top tier trim is the Trekking Plus that starts at $27,100. The middle models are the Easy, Trekking, and Lounge. All but the base offer an all-wheel-drive option and both the Trekking models feature unique front and rear fascias and Satin Silver accents for a more distinct and aggressive look.

The 500X is available in dealerships now.
