Texas Auto Writers Truck Rodeo Results

Tx Auto Writers Truck RodeoAnother Texas Truck Rodeo is history, wrapping up this past Sunday. So what is the Texas Truck Rodeo? It’s an annual event held by the Texas Auto Writers Association, which I am a member of, now going on for 20-years. Manufacturers bring their newest trucks, SUVs, and crossovers to take on life in Texas. For the past 5 years the event has been held on the grounds on Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch, just north of San Antonio, Texas. Here the 50 members of the TAWA are able to test many vehicles, back-to-back, on either a light off-road course, a little more involved off-road experience, or take them out on backcountry roads. At the end of the 2-day event, the members then vote for many categories including Truck of Texas and SUV of Texas; two titles that are gaining recognition in the automotive world.

Keep an eye on commercials coming up in Texas as well as you’ll see some of the winning brands using this event to connect with Texans, especially Chrysler Group, who had a near-sweep this year.

Why is Texas so important to the truck and SUV manufacturer? Well, if you don’t already know-Texas makes up a huge amount of most manufacturers sales as it is, but in trucks and SUVs this is even more predominant.

I just read this report and it surprised me. What happened? Did Toyota not show up for the event?????? But I was impressed with the RAM. I looked at the Jeeps at the recent car show. Their estimated gas mileage numbers were awful. It seemed you would not be passing any gas stations along the way. Was I having a senior moment? or is there gas mileage lousy?

Seems the group was really impressed with the Rams. i didn’t make the rodeo this year, but have reviewed the 8-speed with the 6 cylinder and got 26 MPG, that’s the best mileage I’ve gotten with a full sized truck.

THANKS for listening to the show!
