Audi believes in keeping promises. It will bring its super-luxurious Q8 concept to the Detroit Auto Show next month and from the first teaser pics it’s not going to disappoint.
The two pics are actual digital artist mock-ups, so no real deal for a few more weeks. But you can tell it is every inch an Audi in its design. Audi says the goal was to combine an SUV with coupe lines. By the looks of things, it especially seems to be taking aim at the Mercedes-Benz’s coupe-like GLC43 and BMW’s X4 M40i.
The Q8 will land above the Q7 in the Q SUV series. That means if all continues on the current path it will become Audi’s flagship.
The front end appears more aggressive than the Q7. The picture shows a dynamic metallic wrap around the fog lights. The octagon grille takes up most of the picture. It’s ginormous. The rest of the front view lines are very aggressive and tight. Keep in mind the image shows a drawing of a concept. The production model should be more reasonable looking.
The side view image shows the coupe style. The belt line slopes up until the roof cuts diagonally down to meet it. Audi calls the roofline “flat.” The coupe character comes from a careful meeting of the lines. The fenders in the animation bulge over strong wheel lines.
While it’s not showing us the interior yet, Audi promises a spacious cabin like you’d expect in an SUV.
Last we heard the Q8 was set to arrive in 2019. Keep in mind though we could see things from the concept on the new A8.
We’re looking forward to seeing how concept reality lines up with digital art next month.
