Honestly, as far as official teasers go, this one is pretty pointless in our book. Toyota’s newly released 2016 Prius pic basically reveals nothing. In its press release, Toyota refers to the next generation Prius, which will debut September 8th in Las Vegas, as a hybrid with a striking new look, enhanced driving dynamics and impressive fuel economy.
But, fortunately, we really don’t even need an official teaser because pics of the fourth-generation model leaked earlier this week by someone from the Prius Club Malaysia. Check out that photo below which shows at least a few styling cues from the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle.
Toyota executives have previously said that the 2016 Prius will have fuel efficiency that’s at least 10 percent better than the outgoing model, which gets 50 miles per gallon combined. That said, we can likely expect 55-60 mpg for 2016. The better fuel economy is in big part due to a new engine with even higher levels of thermal efficiency.
The company has also suggested that the all-new Prius will be more rewarding to drive, perhaps with more road feel and tighter European roadholding and handling.
We’ll also eventually see new versions of the Prius Plug-In Hybrid, Prius C and Prius V.
