Trucking world get ready. Next week, Mercedes-Benz will finally unveil a preview of its new midsize pickup. The unveiling is scheduled to take place on October 25th in Stockholm, Sweden.
Until then, Mercedes is teasing us with the trailer video dubbed “The Concept”. The outline of the truck in the preview image uses a combination of wood, concrete, and steel for its background. It likely will be off-roading ready, heavy duty, and stylish. We can see smooth, wind drawn lines. Kind of a muscular windswept feel. The silver exterior reflects the Mercedes standard of luxury.
We also know some design details from a press release last year. Mercedes made it clear then the truck wouldn’t be a “fat cowboy truck.” Ouch. We guess were relieved about that. It might be a truck, but Mercedes won’t compromise its luxury design dignity.
Further good news comes from a move up in production. Mercedes originally planned to launch the truck in 2018 or 2019. Now Mercedes says it could be on the road as early as this time next year.
Name, price, and performance details are still under wraps. Word on the street though says it might go by the name X-Class or the GLT. Predictions also have it based off the Nissan NP300 Navara, which isn’t offered in the U.S. It carries a 2.3-liter diesel engine. The upgrade will come from the added luxe details and the ‘Benz branding.
