The Toyota Corolla is celebrating the big 5-0 this year. To celebrate, Toyota is rolling out a special 50th Anniversary Edition along with its 2017 lineup.
Here is everything you need to know about the 2017 Corolla that just hit the road this month starting from $18,500. By the way, Toyota says it’s sold 43 million Corolla’s globally since it started building them in 1966.
LE is most popular trim
The most popular model is the LE trim. The 2017 LE comes with upgraded interior fabric trim and a 3-spoke steering wheel, plus remote keyless entry. You also get automatic climate control with a dust and pollen filter, along with color-keyed heated power outside mirrors
Refreshed styling and upgraded interior
The 2017 is a sportier looking model thanks to a new front grille and LED headlamps.
The L, LE and LE Eco grades gain Bi-LED headlamps, while complex-LED headlamps come standard on SE, XSE and XLE grades. Redesigned 16-inch wheels are standard on the LE and XLE, while the SE and XSE step up into standard 17-inch alloy wheels.
Toyota also upgraded the fabric on the inside. Plus, there is also a redesigned climate control panel and circular air conditioning vents.
Standard Backup Camera on all models
The base L model adds a back-up camera, making that feature now standard across the Corolla line.
Standard Toyota Safety Sense-P on all models
The TSS-P system is now standard across the whole lineup. The safety system bundles the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection; Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beams. It’s part of Toyota’s pledge to make Toyota Safety Sense standard on nearly all its models by the end of 2017.
7-inch touch screen Scout Navigation on select models
The 2017 Corolla comes with Standard Bluetooth and Entune Audio. The Entune Audio Plus and Entune Premium Audio systems feature a 7-inch touch screen for 2017.
2017 Corolla LE Eco CVT offers most power and fuel-efficiency
Toyota says the Corolla LE Eco CVT is expected to be the fuel economy champ of the line. It has a projected rating of 40 mpg on the highway. It’s also the most powerful Corolla in the lineup, with a specially tuned 140 horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder. engine in place of the 132-horsepower version used in the other models. This exclusive version of the engine features Valvematic technology, which offers a broader range of continuously variable valve timing than even the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence in the standard Corolla engine.
New Corolla SE 50th Anniversary Special Edition
The Corolla SE 50th Anniversary Special Edition is limited edition model. Toyota will only build 8,000 of them.
It builds on the SE grade and drivers have a choice of an exclusive Black Cherry Pearl color. The color carries through inside as well. Black Cherry contrast stitching trims the black interior’s steering wheel and shift boot. The distinctive Black Cherry theme also distinguishes the dash panel and door trim, and unique “50th Anniversary Edition” floor mats and exterior rear badging make the final touch.
It comes with a moonroof, Smart Key and Entune Audio Plus with a 7-inch touch-screen and Connected Navigation. There’s also a color 4.2-inch TFT Multi-Information Display in the gauge panel.
