BMW is recalling roughly 2,200 model-year 2006 BMW 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi, 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi and 550i vehicles equipped with the Sport Seat option as well as 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi and 550i luxury cars equipped with standard seats.
They are being recalled to fix an airbag issue. The front passenger airbag may not deploy due to a problem with a sensor that could crack and not work correctly.
Dealers will repair or, as necessary, replace the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack.
BMW will begin notifying owners on Sept. 1. You can read the owner notification letter here.
Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their VIN and learn more.
