If you want to take your rat pack out SRT style it’ll cost you.
The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT, the most powerful Durango ever, will cost nearly double that of the base model just to start. But it does give you the benefit of knowing you’re in the most powerful three-row seat SUV.
Dodge is pricing the SRT from $64,090 including destination. That’s still a good $20K more than even the current top R/T model. Luckily we do know that that model will offer the same visual benefits of the SRT, just not quite the same punch under the hood.
What that $20,000 gives you is the 6.4-liter V8 HEMI with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Dodge also came up with a new special speedometer going up to the SRT’s 180 mph. Dodge claims it not only as the most powerful but also the fastest 3-row SUV with it going from 0-60 mph in only 4.4-seconds. Yep, a monster SUV that will do 60 in under 5.
The two new Sport and Track drive modes adjust the powertrain in two different ways. Sport mode makes shift times faster and channels up to 65 percent of the torque to the rear wheels. Track mode goes beyond that with adding another 5 percent of torque going to the rear wheels and shifting in 160-milliseconds. If neither of these makes you happy, well you probably should just go with a less powerful Durango. The SRT also offers five other drive modes to choose from.
If you’re concerned about having that much power in your hands, that’s a good thing. It means you’re actually aware of the importance of safe driving. Dodge wants to help make you comfortable with driving around the beast with a complimentary full day of driver training at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Arizona. The class comes with the car.
The Durango SRT arrives in dealerships this fall. You choose from seven exterior colors, but note the B5 Blue color will arrive later. Something to keep in mind considering how popular blue is right now.
