It’s been a good while since I have had an RL and it was a very pleasurable experience. I recall from the last RL I had, it was under powered it seemed. Well they have fixed that with a new 3.7 liter V6 that puts out 300 horses on Acura’s flagship car.
The 2009 Acura RL comes with a five-speed automatic that has handsome steering wheel paddles that are very responsive when you get the urge to shift it yourself. I could tell a big difference too in Acura’s SH AWD system, which is Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. This car handles much better than the last one I drove, especially in turns. The car comes standard with everything you would want including air conditioned seats that work really well in the Texas heat.
The test car had Acura’s navigation system which is one of the best in the industry. In addition, it now comes with real time traffic updates, which work like a charm and are a huge help when driving busy freeways.
All in all, it is a VERY enjoyable car with much more room in the cabin than I remember from the last RL I had. As tested the car had a $52000 window sticker but can be bought nicely equipped south of $50K. Steve Levi at Goodson Acura has been telling me this was a terrific car. After driving one for a week, I agree!
