2009 Ford Flex- Car Pro Review

I’ve been driving the 2009 Ford Flex since last Friday and had a chance to drive in all situations. I made a trip to Granbury last Sunday and have driven it in town the rest of the time. I had an opportunity to drive with six people on board one evening which was a good test of the vehicle Ford calls a people mover.

I was eager to get people’s reaction to the vehicle. It is, after all, different. But in this case, different is good actually. What we have here is a crossover SUV that will seat 7 people very comfortably and gets good fuel economy. That really IS different, so in this case different is right on. In fact, this vehicle is VERY timely considering gas prices.

Powered by a terrific 3.5 liter 6 cylinder engine, the vehicle is extremely smooth when driving. It also sports a six speed automatic transmission that was delivering 22 miles per gallon out on the highway at 70 miles per hour. That was a VERY pleasant surprise considering the vehicle had virtually no miles on it and I know the mpg will improve.

Safety was top of mind with this vehicle and as standard equipment; you get six airbags and Ford’s terrific AdvanceTrac and stability control systems. It is full of creature comforts as well including the Sync system that is wonderful for those with cell phones and iPods.

My test vehicle was loaded with automatic climate controlled front and rear air conditioning and heat. It also had a power liftgate, a 10 way heated power driver’s seat, and ambient lighting throughout that you can change from one soft color to another.

Perhaps most appealing about this vehicle is the seats. I don’t know if I have ever sat in anything more comfortable. And this is true for seating throughout the vehicle. You can get a center row split bench if you need to seat seven or captain chairs if you need to seat six.

Whichever one works for you, this vehicle will not disappoint. I said earlier it was timely because to have this much room inside AND get good fuel economy is really rare. This loaded one has a sticker price of $34,000 but the base price starts around $28K.

The Ford Flex is a lot of fun to drive, a smooth ride, and is extremely quiet. They are just starting to hit at the Sam Pack stores this week, so go by for a test drive. I think you’ll really like this vehicle, I know I did.

How or where could I get the best deal on an 09 or 10 ford flex. Also, what would be a comparable vehicle to the flex? I live the flex but I may not can afford it. I live in Indianapolis, IN and was referred to you. Thanks for any help. Sundy Hughes. PS. I have back problems & need plenty of leg room.

Sundy, I am a big fan of the Flex, I often call it the best driving SUV on the market. I don’t have any dealers outside of the areas the show airs in, so can’t help. I wish I could.

      Thanks for writing.
