2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 – Car Pro Review

Wow, I have always liked SUVs, but I never knew one could be so much fun. I just finished an extended test-drive of the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the HOT and FAST SRT8 engine. Yes, I have always loved the SRT8 in all Chrysler products, but wasn’t sure it made sense in an SUV. I stand corrected Chrysler, please accept my apologies.

You get 420 heart-pounding horses in a full sized SUV that does 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds. Not sure it gets better than that if you need to seat 7 people and play a DVD for the kids. This may be the perfect mix of family vehicle and Daddy play toy.

When in family-mode, it is delightful. It is roomy inside, has all the creature comforts to please everyone, and has a wide array of options, including on demand TV stations for the kids available through Sirius/XM. Yes Dads, while tearing up the streets your kids can be watching LIVE Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, or the Cartoon Network. Is this a GREAT country or what?

Exterior styling is bold, yet classic Jeep and the wheels are BEAUTIFUL. The cladding and front spoiler tells you at a glance it is an SRT8. If there is anything I don’t like about this vehicle it is that the seats could be just a little more comfortable. It still would not stop me from buying one.

At first glance I thought the sticker price of this loaded Jeep was crazy, it is just north of $50,000. But after a week with it, I can see where it makes a lot of sense. Gentlemen, the next time your wife wants a new SUV, slide one of these in the garage. At least you can have a blast on the weekends!

The physics behind this automobile defy much of what you’d expect from a heavy AWD SUV, having driven this at the limit and with both stock and modified there are few in the price range delivering substantial levels of fun, the only deficit would be fuel efficiency which could be better with newer tech ology lowering cylinders while cruising. Its a total package of balanced power/handling/stopping performance at a relative bargain.
