Spending a week with the 2009 version of the terrific Lexus ES 350 this was, as it always is with any Lexus, a real pleasure. Yes, this vehicle sits on the same chassis as the Toyota Camry and there is nothing wrong with that, considering Camry is the best selling car in America.
The 2009 Lexus ES 350 comes standard with a 3.5 liter V6 that puts out 272 horses and a six-speed automatic. I had the Luxury package which includes a terrific panoramic glass sunroof that covers the front and back seat passengers, but can be covered for the Texas sun. It also comes with navigation system, rear camera, and steering-linked headlamps which move as you turn the car. Until you have driven a Lexus with this feature, you cannot imagine how it improves visibility at night.
The interior is pure Lexus with spectacular leather seating and wood grain trim that is second to none. It is just hard to find anything not to like on a Lexus. The navigation system is terrific; it has all the latest safety features as standard equipment, and the Mark Levinson sound system is incredible. The heated and cooled seats are as responsive as any I have had. A feature I always enjoy on Lexus is the Smart Access system. With the key in your pocket, you can unlock the doors and then use a push-button to start the car without fiddling with the keys.
Perhaps most noticeable is the fuel economy. The EPA says 19 in town, 27 on the road. I actually got close to 10% better than that in a car I didn’t try hard with and a car that has a lot of power.
Lexus doesn’t run many sales, but in December every year, they do the December to Remember sale which is ALWAYS the best time to get a new Lexus. If you want a great car in the $40,000 range fully loaded, I am happy to set you up at Park Place Lexus in Plano or Grapevine. They are both fantastic dealerships and this is an incredible car.
