A rocket ship on wheels; the 2009 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a rare combination of brute force appointed with luxury. I am not sure I have ever had a car quite like this.
C Class in the Mercedes line-up is their smallest car, although not entry level, it is still pretty small and light. Don’t get me wrong, C350 is a wonderful car and stacks up nicely to BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS.
But what happens when you drop a 6.3 liter V8 under the hood of this car that even when de-tuned, puts out a heart stomping 451 horses? Pure CarGuy bliss is the answer. From the moment you start this beast and hear the incredible sound of the exhaust system, you know this car is something special.
The interior is spectacular and the seats are beautiful, although a large man would probably not fit in the contour of the back of the seats, it might not be comfortable for everyone. But you have to remember, this is a fairly small car so something had to go. The stereo is mind boggling to say the least. The Benz navigation system was typically terrific and although I am not a fan of most joystick operations in cars, this one’s use is minimal and easy.
Handling for this car is fantastic and it corners like it is on rails, even when pushed hard in a tight turn. When in comfort instead of sport mode and driven normally, this car could be a car for anyone to enjoy. But when you want to feel like you are in a really fast car, it performs.
The two stats I paid closest attention to was zero to 60 time, which I clocked at 4.4 seconds which is pretty incredible, and fuel economy which is not something you should buy this car for. I got 13 in town not really trying, and on the highway, I got 18 miles per gallon. It is hard to get good fuel economy in a car that sounds like this one and that you know has the acceleration this one has.
This car is not cheap by any stretch, but if $66,000 is in your budget, and you like to go real fast, this might be the car for you.
