2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport – Car Pro Review

My test car was REALLY red, with beautiful chrome wheels, and you know I just love big, chrome wheels!  The car is stunning to the eye, but is also stunning under the hood with a 6.2 liter V8 that produces 436 horses.  Another thing I love in any car is dual exhaust, and this one has that option for $1195.  That sounds like a lot of money, but it sounds awesome and even at that price, it is a great option and makes the car.

The Grand Sport is a version of the C6, but is wider and the car lowered.  You immediately know it is a GS by the stripes on the front fenders, but Corvette aficionados can tell at a glance by the stance of the car.  The beloved wheel combo on this car sticks out too, literally with 18” wheels on the front and 19” wheels on the rear.  In fact, the rear tires are so wide, this car won’t go through most car washes.

If you have missed laying rubber since you were a teenager, this may be the car for you.  It breaks loose even with the traction control on, disengage it and it will smoke the tires for the rest of the day.

The interior is classic ‘Vette….nice but not overly special in any way.  The heads-up display projects your speed and rpms up on the windshield, which is a GREAT touch.  The car has a wonderful stereo that will blast you out, and a more than ample navigation system that is easy to use.

Does it compare to the Porsche 911?  In many ways, no.  Would I rather have two Grand Sports and $20,000 in change?  YES.

Nobody has ever said a Corvette was comfortable, that is just not part of the deal.  It’s not easy to get in and out of, is a bit cramped, and yet nobody complains.  It’s a Corvette, and that makes it a very special car.  There is just nothing like one.

What I liked most:  The exterior appearance, sound, and of course the feel.

What I would change if I could: I would probably have the clutch a little tighter to make shifting even quicker.

MSRP as tested: $69,900

Fuel Economy: Rated at 17 city/26 highway but I can’t prove it.

Vette GS in a few words: I wish everyone in America could have it for a week like I have.
