2011 Jaguar XKR175 Coupe – Car Pro review

2011 Jaguar XKR175 Coupe – Car Pro review

Some weeks I just love my job as a car reviewer. This is one of those weeks.

I was honored to have the 2011 Jaguar XKR175 Limited Edition coupe. This was my first coupe Jaguar to ever review. The 175 in the name signifies this car as being one of only 175 of these special edition Jags that will be produced.

Special features of this model include front and rear air dams and a larger spoiler. Although those modifications seem minor, it takes the top speed up to 174 miles per hour, where the normal R coupe tops out at 155. I have no doubt about either of those numbers.

Under the hood of all Jag R models is a 5.0 liter V8 supercharged engine that produces 510-horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. 0-to-60 is 4.6 seconds. This limited production coupe comes in only Ultimate Black and has 20” Kasuga wheels and red brake calipers. The exterior looks are nothing short of stunning.

Inside, this model has a beautiful interior as do all Jaguars. The Limited Edition comes with cranberry contrast stitching throughout the seats and door panels, and in place of normal wood or aluminum, the accents are black piano veneer. All that comes together for a striking introduction as soon as you open the door.

As you would expect, the car comes with virtually everything as standard equipment, including touchscreen navigation, Blue Tooth connection, Xenon headlights, push button start, and a 525-Watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
I am at a loss for adjectives to describe how well this car handles and drives. Whether on the open road, in a hard curve, or in stop and go traffic, this car is a sheer joy to drive. I always admit to being a huge Jaguar fan, and in fact have an XKR convertible, but this car takes it to another level and completely exemplifies the essence of Jaguar.
What I liked most: Performance of this large, heavy, sports coupe.
What I would change if I could: I would add a rear view camera as standard. It has a parking aid on screen, but is not an actual camera. What can I say? I had to find SOMETHING.

MSRP as tested: $104,500

Fuel Economy: Rated at 15 city/22 highway.

XKR Coupe in a few words: Incredible. Just incredible.
