Nissan is recalling about 55,000 Versa sedans from the 2012 model year over faulty airbags. The issue is not related to the ongoing exploding Takata airbag recall.
In this case, the recall involves curtain and seat-mounted airbags. Nissan says they might deploy without warning when a door is slammed due to a degraded electrical connection. Basically, we’re talking about a bad connection that could interrupt sensor communication which could trigger the airbag to deploy at a lower force threshold.
The National Highway Transportation Administration reportedly opened an investigation into the matter last October following several Versa owner complains. There are no accidents or injuries reported.
Nissan plans to fix the problem by installing a new jumper harness and replacing the side impact sensors. If you own a Versa contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or check out Nissan’s recall page.
