2012 Subaru Impreza Review

I had the 2012 Subaru Impreza recently, which has always been a good car, but frankly nothing special…at least until this 2012 came out recently.

Subaru has a real player in the small car market now. They put the 2012 Impreza on a longer wheelbase, which resulted in a better drive. They did not add any overall length to the exterior, opting instead to add to the interior room. After spending a few days with this car, that turned out to be a great decision. Interior room in the car is terrific and I can say that the Subaru Impreza is ALMOST a mid-sized sedan.

Trunk space was increased, but most noticeable was Subaru took the bottom of the windshield way out from the driver, and that made a HUGE difference in the overall feel of the car. It drives like a much bigger car than it is.

There is a new 2.5-liter Boxer engine under the hood, hooked to a continuously-variable autmatic transmission that got me a consistent 36-mile per gallon on the highway.

The story however is not unlike the Camry, it’s the value of the car. The test car I had this week had a power moonroof, some really sharp looking wheels, and it drove great for an MSRP of just over $22000.

This car is a contender in the increasingly crowded over 35-MPG segment.
