Just what is it with carmakers these days. They’re giving names to cars that are quite mouthfuls to say, like for instance BMW’s recent choice to call its Centennial editions the “BMW Individual M760i xDrive Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS”.
Now Audi is getting in on the long names, too, with the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus ‘selection 24’. The limited edition sports car is based on the already gorgeous Audi R8 V10 Plus. The ‘selection 24’ celebrates the Audi R8 LMS GT3’s victory at last year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring,
As you might imagine from the 24 in the title, Audi will only sell two dozen of them. As if that wasn’t exclusive enough on its own, Audi is only selling them in its home country, Germany. So if you want one, you’d better hightail it over there now. Although we must warn you, you can’t drive these on U.S. roads because their fantastic laser headlight technology is illegal over here.
Long name aside, the Audi R8 V10 Plus ‘selection 24h’ is a tricked-out car to love. It’s painted in the same color as the R8 LMS race car, with black and red highlights on the rockers, front spoiler, rear diffuser and signature sideblades. Of course, it also has ‘R8 24h’ badging.
The special edition amps up the technology, too. It comes with improved dynamic steering, Audi magnetic ride with adaptive damper control and entry lights even project the R8 logo on the pavement when you unlock the doors.
If by some stroke of luck Audi did offer them here in the States they’d go for $260,000.
The ‘selection 24h’ will be on display at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring later this month, where its GT3 sibling will try for a second consecutive win at the track.
By the way, let’s not forget about the gorgeous 2017 R8 Spyder Audi revealed at the New York Auto Show earlier this year.
