Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 7,000 2017 Dodge Challengers due to rollaway risk.
It impacts about 7,800 of the modern muscle cars equipped with 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engines and eight-speed automatic transmissions. The problem is that the recalled models could roll away when in park due to a software programming issue. They could either a) rollaway when the driver thinks the transmission is in park mode or b) rollaway when the driver thinks the parking brake is on and it isn’t.
The fix requires a transmission control module software update that dealers will do for free.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners Aug. 21. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to learn more.
