The 2017 Ford F-250 with rear-wheel drive is taking the crown as the safest Super Duty ever. It’s been awarded five stars in new National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tests.

Ford says the Super Duty is the only heavy-duty pickup to ever receive top honors in the government’s crash tests. The big news here involves the 2017 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab rear-wheel drive model. It received 5-stars in the frontal crash test, a bump up from the 4-stars it received in 2016. It kept its 5-stars in the front and rear side crash tests, as well as a 4-star rollover rating.
2017 Ford Super Duty 4X4
The Super Duty doesn’t rank quite so high, however, when it comes to the all-wheel drive model. The 2017 4×4 model received an overall 4-stars because of a 3-star rollover rating which brought the whole score down. The 4X4 is taller than the rear-wheel drive model, hence the lower rollover score. But it received 5-stars in the front and rear crash tests like its sibling.
Ford credits the Super Duty’s improved performance to the new high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy used in the body and box. It allows the 2017 model to drop 350 pounds from 2016. Not only is it lighter, but the frame is 24 times stiffer.
Available Safety Technology
Other safety comes from the new tech. You can add 360-degree view cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and inflatable seatbelts.
