Lexus is taking the wraps off the 2017 IS – the third most popular model in its lineup behind the RX and EX.
The face-lifted 2017 model debuted at this week’s Beijing Auto Show with Lexus calling it “daring” in the style department.
Essentially, it’s been updated with the same huge grill that’s already come into play on other models like the RC Coupe and upcoming LC 500 sports car. The redesigned grill folds back at a higher point, giving the car a sportier feel with a visually low center of gravity. It’s highlighted by new headlamps and large air intakes in the front bumper.
The IS comes with standard 10-spoke 17 inch wheels with new designs and bright machine finishes.
In the rear, there are more pronounced “L”-shaped LED light guides that are now triple layered within the taillight housing. New rectangular chrome exhaust tips also give the car a sportier nature.
It’s also available in two new colors, Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black Glass Flake.
Inside, the biggest change is a new bigger multimedia display screen. It’s grown from 7 inches to 10.3 inches, making it quite a bit larger than its predecessor. Also, “Enter” buttons have been added to the sides of the Remote Touch Interface on the center console, so the system is easier to use.
In the tech department, the IS now comes with the brand’s latest safety system. It combines Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beam and Radar Cruise Control.
Lexus updated the engine last year, so nothing new there to report. It comes with either a 2.0L turbo-four good for 241 horses, a 3.5L V6 with 255 horses or 3.5L V6 with 306 hps.
Lexus introduced the current second-generation model in 2013. The 2017 should hit dealers in the fall.
