2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 LE is a Track Beast

Chevrolet keeps feeling the need to one-up itself. Earlier this month, it announced a 200+ mph run time for the 2017 Camaro ZL1 coupe. This week, itís talking up the track-focused capability of the ZL1 LE package.

How track ready is it? Well in preliminary testing, the new ZL1 1LE was 3 seconds faster than the standard ZL1 Coupe around General Motorsí 2.9-mile, 18-turn Milford Road Course test track. Note, thatís the ZL1 coupe we told you about a week ago. The one that averaged 198-mph on a dual run in Germany.

The ZL1 1LE performance package means racing-based suspension and aerodynamic technologies, as well as exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires.

By aero features we mean a new carbon fiber rear wing, specific air deflectors and dive planes on the front fascia. They produce a grip-generating downforce to help the car stick harder and drive faster in turns. Itís lighter, too, which helps the speed factor.

The ZL1 is powered by a 650-horsepower, supercharged LT4 engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission featuring Active Rev Match. Brembo brakes, including red calipers with the 1LE logo, are also part of the package. Additional standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, Bose premium audio system, heated/ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel.

The 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE goes on sale later this year. Look for pricing closer to the on-sale date.
