And the new model rollouts just keep coming. The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT 5-door hatchback arrives at dealerships soon with a slight size and price increase for 2018.
There are only two GT trims; base and Sport. The base model starts from $20,235 and the Sport from $24,135. That’s giving it a price bump of about $550 from the current GT.
The price hike gets you a significantly different infotainment design and larger overall body and interior space. Starting with the infotainment system: No longer is the screen part of a sweeping back dash, but the standard 8-inch screen now seems to float above two central air vents.
For 2018 it grows to offer a total of 25 cubic feet of storage, about 100 men’s NBA size 7 basketballs. The overall body rides lower to the ground and has a wider, more stable, more stable stance. The overall body and chassis are more rigid than the current model as well.
The base comes with a 161-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, while the Sports power boost comes from a 201-horsepower 1.6-liter Turbo. Both trims offer a standard 6-speed manual transmission. The base offers optional 6-speed automatic transmission for $1,000 more while the Sport bumps you to 7-speed Dual Clutch EcoShift for $1,100 more.
Additional safety features include available Advanced Driver Assist features on the Sport. They include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist and Smart Cruise Control. The unique Driver Attention Alert system monitors how you are driving and warns you if you start to become less attentive.
Other Sport includes 18-inch alloy wheels, one inch more than the base model. LED Daytime Running Lights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rearview camera, come standard on both trims.
Look for the 2018 GT to arrive in dealerships soon.
