2019 Audi Q8 Flagship SUV Debuts

Audiís new flagship SUV is on the way later this year. Sportier-looking than the Q7, the brand-new Q8 seats five and will come standard with Quattro All-Wheel Drive. As far as competition goes, the Q8 is Audiís rival to the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The roof slopes down in the back to the D-pillars and the pronounced wheel arches pay homage to the vehicleís Quattro DNA. A light strip connects the taillights at the rear of the vehicle. As in the original Audi Quattro, a black surface underlines this strip. The result is a sportier, sleeker-looking SUV than the Q7.

Interior Design

The cabin design is influenced by the range-topping Audi A8. A new control system is operated by twin touchscreens. The 10-inch MMI infotainment screen sits on top and a lower screen controls things like the climate. You can also personalize the MMI system and set it to your favorites. Drivers can also speak requests such as, ďIím hungryĒ to which the Q8 will suggest nearby restaurants.

Inside, trims include various leather options, seat designs, and chrome accents. Optional contour ambient lighting is available. Other features include wireless charging and a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System. Take note, while the Q8 seats five, the Q7 seats up to seven.

Driving Dynamics

The Q8 comes standard equipped with Quattro all-wheel drive that transfers power to the front and rear axle at a standard ratio of 40:60. When needed it can transfer the majority of the power to the axle for better traction. The Q8 also comes standard equipped with an adaptive damping suspension.

Adaptive air suspension is available. It enables the various suspension and damping combinations that make up the Audi drive select modes and makes the Q8 a capable choice for off-road terrain.

The new Audi Q8 is expected to hit U.S. dealerships in late 2018. The company did not reveal pricing.
