At long last, a redesigned 2019 Nissan Altima is taking its bow. Nissan rolled out the all-new 2019 Altima this week at the New York Auto Show. It’s the sixth generation of the brand’s best-selling sedan, with 5.6 million sales to date.

One very big piece of news is that the Altima will be the beneficiary of the world’s first production-ready variable-compression turbo inline 4-cylinder.
The VC-Turbo engine, available on the front-wheel drive only SR and Platinum trims, will replace the previous-generation Altima’s 3.5-liter V6. The new engine delivers near V6-level performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy. The Altima’s standard 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder direct-injection engine is new, too. Nissan says it offers more horsepower and torque, as well as improvements in noise, vibration, and harshness.

Another big development is that the midsize sedan also will offer available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive for the first time ever on an Altima. The AWD system is available on all trim levels equipped with the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.
Technology-wise, the Altima will offer Nissan ProPILOT Assist autonomous driving technology standard on the SV, SL and Platinum grades. Also new for 2019, Rear Automatic Braking will also be brought into Nissan’s existing Safety Shield suite of technologies, creating “Safety Shield 360”.

Inside, you’ll find an upgraded, redesigned premium interior and seats with added bolstering. An 8-inch color touchscreen with NissanConnect is compatible with both Apply CarPlay and Android Auto.
In all, there are 5 trims – S, SR, SV, SL, and Platinum. An exclusive launch edition based on the Platinum VC-Turbo will be offered in limited quantities and open for reservations in early summer 2018.
The 2019 Altima goes on sale in the U.S. in the fall.
